Tennessee Soybean Association Commends Supreme Court Roundup Ruling
Jackson, Tenn., June 25, 2026 - The Tennessee Soybean Association welcomes the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in the Monsanto Co. v. Durnell case regarding glyphosate-based herbicides, including Roundup. This decision recognizes the importance of regulatory certainty for farmers who rely on these tools to protect crop yields and maintain productive farming operations.
The Court's decision reinforces confidence in the federal regulatory process governing crop protection products, which has been in federal law since 1947, with numerous modifications by Congress to incorporate modern science. Guaranteed access to effective weed, insect, and disease management tools allows Tennessee soybean farmers to focus on growing healthy crops while navigating and mitigating agricultural risks, such as weather challenges, rising input costs, and the emergence of pest species that were historically uncommon in Tennessee fields.
Tennessee Soybean Association President Jay Yeargin said, “All pesticides have undergone years of review by federal regulatory agencies, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. This decision provides necessary clarity for farmers and community members alike regarding the safety and efficacy of these products, allowing farmers to continue operating sustainably and profitably for generations to come.”
The Tennessee Soybean Association remains committed to advocating for science-based policies that preserve farmers’ access to proven crop protection tools while supporting sustainable agricultural practices and a secure domestic food supply.
